About

The Arts Council Windsor & Region (ACWR) is a community arts council and art service organization that serves all disciplines of individual artists, arts organizations, and non-arts partners in promoting, developing, and realizing creative activity, since 1980. The organization provides the Windsor-Essex Region with valuable services, like ArtSpeak Gallery, Art.Work workshops, the New Voices program, free space arts residencies, individual grant consultation, an in-office resource library, a website which hosts updated resources, a community arts calendar, and the weekly ArtsNotes newsletter.

Project Goals

The project goals included:

  • Improve organizational efficiencies by moving offline, manual processes online.
  • Increase awareness of community art events through an online calendar.

The Solution

Created by Elev8 Web Studio, the website displays upcoming events at the gallery using The Events Calendar Plugin, and even allows the community to submit events for inclusion in the gallery calendar.

It also features an online membership payment and renewal system and member directory, powered by MemberPress. Elev8 Web Studio did some custom modifications to MemberPress to create a “virtual member card”: a downloadable PDF that members can print. This saves the organization time and money. It sends renewal reminders automatically, improving member retention.

Lastly, the site also has an online merchandise shop and gallery space booking engine based on WooCommerce. Elev8 Web Studio customized the behaviour of the booking system to meet the organization’s specific requirements, including a mandatory Rental Agreement that must be accepted prior to reserving the gallery space.
